With fashionable photography the idea behind the pictureseries is important. Great exemples of storylines within pictures are made by Guy Bourdin and Gregory Crewdson.

With fashion also the surroundings play an important role. You must become aware that a picture is two dimensional. So that tree in the distance will become a small stick next to the model. And a branch might appear to stick out of an ear. Often we use only a small part out of a nice old wall as background. Compostion becomes important. Don't put everything in the middle and use the golden section

Fashionphotography is teamwork. Therefore you will form a team with one 'director' each time. Professionals will work together with beginners and intermediates. Each team needs only one camera. So if you have one with a flashcontact please breng it. Laptops are also welcome. I have a spare camera too. No matter what level you are, after this you will look different at fashionseries and gradually you will integrate the things you remember in your own photography wwter it is landscape. portait, wedding, vacantion or professional fashion photography!

A fashionpicture can be an extended portrait. If you study your model you will notice the difference in expression of the right side and the left side of the face. You will notice subconcious gestures and use them to develop new expressions

You will get information about the 'painting with light'. We will use the lessons learned by studying Rembrandt. You will explained the long and short side of a face and use that for your choice in lighting of the total mode and you will find out how the numbers of stops and shuttertime interrelate. Photoshop and any other issues can and will:( be discussed, but actually the technical side is not important at all in creative photography).

Ron Scharis is certified as a photographer specialised in fashion and experienced in working for various fashionlabels and magazines. His pictures have much contrast but look natural. He is member of the board of supervisors of the Centre of Visual Arts.
